Professor Vivekanand Jha

Professor Vivekanand Jha is Executive Director at The George Institute for Global Health, India, Chair of Global Kidney Health, Faculty of Medicine, Imperial College, London and past President of International Society of Nephrology. He is an established clinician-scientist and has led many clinical trials, policy relevant community research and basic science research in the field of kidney disease and transplantation.

Professor Jha is a recognised global expert on the burden of kidney disease and its socioeconomic impact on low-middle income countries. He advises the Govt of India as a member of Task Forces and Scientific Advisory Committees, is a member of the Core Group to develop National Health research policy and an Advisor to the WHO.

He has led large-scale collaborative research projects in many countries and has a track record of translating research findings into changes in clinical practice and health, especially non- communicable diseases. Prof Jha leads many research networks in India and globally and is regularly invited to make plenary presentations in major global and regional conferences. He has held leadership positions in International Transplantation Society, International Society of Peritoneal Dialysis and Asian Pacific Society of Nephrology. He has been recognized by the National Academy of Medical Sciences India, Royal College of Physicians of London with Fellowships. He has published over 500 peer reviewed papers, and 34 book chapters in a range of leading journals. Prof Jha regularly contributes to advocacy discussions with NGOs, multilateral organizations, consumer groups, civil society organisations and through lay press.
