Maritza Horn
 After graduating as a Clinical Technologist in Nephrology in 2000, I began my career in renal care with major corporate dialysis companies such as National Renal Care and B|Braun Avitum. Throughout my various roles in the renal industry, my passion for quality kidney care has only grown. I have had the privilege of working alongside leading Nephrologists in Pretoria and have accumulated over 24 years of experience, primarily focused on haemodialysis. Noticing a gap in attention to peritoneal dialysis treatment, I founded Q Kidney Care (Pty) Ltd in 2016, with "Q" standing for quality. I am dedicated to peritoneal dialysis and take pride in improving patient care and quality of life.
To continuously expand my expertise, I have engaged in several initiatives, including:
- Collaborating with Ampath's team to develop a system that enhances Nephrologists' insights into PD patients' results.
- Training under a renowned Vascular surgeon in Pretoria to perform sonars and dopplers for patients with vascular access on haemodialysis.
- Partnering with surgeons to refine the insertion and preparation of peritoneal dialysis catheters for patients choosing this treatment.
- Serving as a trustee for the 'Ava 2nd Chance' NGO, established by one of my transplanted patients.
- Training students in peritoneal dialysis.
- Hosting kidney awareness talks at various functions and schools.
- Acting as an EXCO member on the board of the Renal Care Society of South Africa since 2022.
My life motto is: "Winners are not people who never fail but people who never quit!"
