CONGRESS NEWS
TRAVEL ADVISORY AND GENERAL HELPFUL INFORMATION
VENUE
The congress is being held at the Emperors Palace Convention Centre, 64 Jones Road, O.R. Tambo, Kempton Park, Johannesburg.

The Emperors Palace Shuttle service is a complimentary service offered to all guests travelling between O.R. Tambo International Airport and Emperors Palace. The Shuttle runs every 20 minutes from 06h00 and 23h00. For after-hours collections, call Unicab on +27 (0)11 928 1762. The shuttle vans are black with the Emperors Palace logo on the sides and the drivers wear a black Emperors Palace uniform.

Directions from Arrivals Hall Terminal: Exit the International Arrivals building, cross over the road and look for a sign stating "Public Transport" which will be visible, walk straight ahead ensuring The Intercontinental Hotel remains on your right-hand side. Continue through the foyer until you exit into the "Shuttle pick-up Point".

Parking is complimentary for delegates attending the conference. Please state at the gate that you are attending the SA Renal conference and you will be provided with a parking voucher which you will have to return when exiting the gate.

ONSITE REGISTRATION PROCEDURES & SPEAKER PREPARATION ROOM
Please bring your confirmation of registration to the registration desk at the Conference Centre, to collect your registration materials. If you are registering for the first time or paying your registration fees, please go to the Onsite Registration desk.

The Speaker Preparation Room is in Assembly IV. You will need to upload your presentation (preferably 24 hours prior to your presentation) before you report to the meeting room you are presenting in. For more information please refer to the Presenters Instructions that were emailed to you.

The Registration desk and Speaker Preparation room operating hours will be as follows:
Thursday 11th October: 09h00 - 10h00 (outside Senate II)
Friday 12th October: 07h30 - 19h30
Saturday 13th October: 07h30 - 17h00
Sunday 14th October: 08h00 - 12h00

CURRENCY AND MONEY CHANGING
South African currency is ZAR / South African Rands.
You may change your money at the airport on arrival or at any of the many banks in the city during banking hours. Hotels may also assist but the exchange rates may be less favorable. Automatic Teller Machines (ATM's) are available throughout the city for easy access to funds. Please do not hand your ATM card to anyone and be cautious of people offering you help.

ELECTRICITY SUPPLY
South Africa's electricity supply runs at 220/230V, 50Hz AC. Sockets take round-pinned plugs. Most hotel rooms have sockets that will take 110V electric shavers, but for other appliances visitors might need adaptors.

IMMUNISATIONS
Vaccinations: Yellow fever certificates are required if your journey starts or entails passing through the yellow fever belt of Africa or South America. The South African Health Department now requires that all people travelling to Zambia, will require a yellow fever vaccination. This should be done 10 days prior to your date of departure from South Africa. Please contact your doctor or local travel clinic for more information on vaccinations.
Malaria: Johannesburg is not considered to be a malaria designated area. You are advised however to take the necessary precautions if you are traveling to malaria designated areas located mainly in the northern areas of South Africa and you should consult your physician for advice in this regard.

INSURANCE
SA Renal Congress accepts no liability for any personal injury, loss or damage of property belonging to or additional expenses incurred by congress participants either during the congress or as result of delays, strikes or any other circumstances. Participants are requested to make their own arrangements with respect to health, travel, and cancellation insurance.

LANGUAGE
The official language at the Congress will be English.

LUNCH & TEA BREAKS
Lunch and tea breaks will take place in the exhibition hall, Assembly I & II, and is included in the registration fee.

MEDICAL EMERGENCIES
Johannesburg and South Africa have several excellent medical facilities, able to meet any medical emergency. As with any travel, you are advised to take out travel insurance to cover the cost of private hospital treatment.

A paramedic is available onsite at the Congress in the Medical Suite.

PASSPORTS & VISAS
All visitors to South Africa must be in possession of a valid passport and it is a requirement that the document should have at least 2 empty pages when you arrive in South Africa. The passport must be valid for no less than 30 days after the final date of your intended stay in South Africa. Your passport needs to be machine legible.

Nationals of some countries are exempt from visas whilst for nationals of others they are a requirement. Visas must be obtained in your home country or from missions outside of South Africa and cannot be applied for at South African ports of entry.

POSTER BOARD INFORMATION
Printed posters will be displayed in Assembly I & II. Posters may go up from 08h00 on Friday 12th of October and must be removed by 10h15 on Sunday 14th of October. Posters left up after this time will be discarded.

PROGRAMME CHANGES
The organizers cannot assume liability for any changes in the programme due to external or unforeseen circumstances.

SECURITY
For those participants who have not previously visited South Africa or Johannesburg, and are concerned about personal safety, we wish to assure all visitors that Johannesburg is like any other major city with good and bad areas. Common sense will ensure a trouble free and enjoyable congress and vacation.
